Sicklecell.md - a company set up to get across the truth
about sickle cell disease, that there are many people affected
whom live comparatively normal lives.

Requirements
There were many websites that contained information about Sicklecell
disease but none that contained information regarding the patient
with the disease. Dr. Konotey-Ahulu a renowned Dr. with great
experience of dealing with the disease wished to address this
and provide a "resource to the sickle cell disease patient".
He wanted
to give the use an opportunity to learn about the disease and
contact other people and relate experiences. As many people had
been asking him for lists of his publications, mostly relating
to sicklecell but some relating to AIDS, he wanted to allow users
access to this and further down the line to provide the option
for users to purchase his in depth book on the subject.
Solution
Phase One: Website
Chaplin Multimedia designed a website that was clear and focused
on the requirements. It had simple navigation buttons on the right
side with sub options on the left. We created a guest book facility
as users from all over the world could then leave messages for
the Dr. A discussion forum was also set up which allowed users
to share their experiences of the disease with others. A knowledge
test was created -particularly targeting medical students and
frequently asked questions were added which have been updated
several times since launch.
Phase Two:
E-commerce
An e-commerce system was designed and implemented which allowed
users to purchase Dr. Konotey-Ahulu's book 'The Sicklecell Disease
Patient'. It has the flexibility to add more products later as
they become available.

Since launch the site has received acclaim from patients
and doctors alike. It has also been mentioned and reviewed in magazines
